Our state of the art facilities enable us to provide specialised medical and surgical care for your horses.
On Site Facilities
Equine Vet Facilities
The equine hospital at AVP consists of a purpose built equine operating theatre and a padded recovery room linked by a mechanical gantry system. The hospital is supported by a large main stable block, intensive care stables, intensive care foal boxes and an isolation stable. We also have safe and secure post and rail yards with shelters for the less intensive patient and for broodmares.
A large undercover diagnostic area complements the hospital and contains two crushes, one of which is specifically designed for radiography and ultrasound, and multiple examination areas for consultations and treatments.
Horses can be safely loaded and unloaded within the fully fenced driveway and parking area which also includes a firm level trot out surface that is ideal for lameness evaluation.
Arthroscopy
Colic Surgery
Equine Surgery and Hospital
We proudly offer a modern and state of the art equine surgical facility with a fully air conditioned operating theatre. Our theatre is outfitted with a hydraulic surgery table and mechanical gantry system allowing us to anaesthetize and recover horses in a padded recovery room. Veterinary anaesthetists monitor blood pressure, ECG, blood oxygen saturation and carbon dioxide levels using modern monitoring equipment whilst your horse is under general anaesthesia.
At AVP we offer all current surgical procedures including arthroscopy, colic surgery, rig surgery, eye surgery including grafts, joint and tendon sheath flushes, wind surgery, and sarcoid and tumour surgery.
Eye Graft Surgery
Our hospital facility allows us to provide post surgery care, intensive care for the critically ill patient and hospitalisation for internal medicine patients. We have staff available for all emergency and urgent procedures. We also welcome visiting consultants and specialists who enable us to offer the full range of elective surgical procedures and in turn provide the best possible outcomes for your horse.
Our facility operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and we accept referrals from other veterinary practices.
Neonatal Foal Care
Neonatal Foal Care
Premature and sick foals often require intensive care. We have dedicated veterinarians and nurses that provide round the clock care for these patients. We are equipped to provide intravenous fluids, oxygen support and assisted feeding as required.
In our hospital we have specially designed foal boxes that allow mares and foals to be housed in the same stable while maintaining the safety of the foal while facilitating intensive treatment.
Compromised foals can deteriorate quickly so if you have any doubts as to the health of your foal seek immediate veterinary attention. There is no doubt that early intervention results in better outcomes.
Laboratory
Laboratory Services
At Anstead Veterinary Practice we perform a large range of in-house laboratory testing. We offer pre-anaesthetic blood tests, general health profiles and racing profiles. Our in-house laboratory services include haematology, biochemistry, electrolytes and cytology. Our onsite lab enables the critically ill patient the benefit of a full body function blood test with test results available within 30 minutes. Access to a regional laboratory permits us to offer a full pathology service.
Our veterinarians are able to fully evaluate and interpret performance horse profiles, making recommendations as required.
Our laboratory is also used for the processing of samples for irap™ joint therapy and PRP tendon and ligament treatment.
