Dr Nathan Anthony, BVSc (Hons) MACVSc - Principal and Equine Veterinarian
Nathan is the Practice Principal and an Equine Veterinarian.
Nathan started his career in mixed practice in South Australia working with all animals, large and small. He then branched into Equine practice, working in the UK for some time before relocating to Anstead where he has been based since 2002.
Since then, Nathan has upgraded the facility at Anstead to a modern and state of the art practice that provides complete service to family pets and horses.
Nathan’s main fields of interest and expertise are the diagnosis and treatment of lameness in performance horses and equine surgery. Nathan thrives on the hectic workload of the reproductive season.
In 2010 Nathan was accepted as a member of the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists in the field of Equine Surgery. The College is a post graduate group that aims to advance the current level of veterinary knowledge and skill.
Nathan enjoys equestrian sports and is an accredited FEI Veterinarian. He can often be found officiating at equestrian events.
Dr Asher Dessaix, BVSc (Hons) MVS - Mixed Animal Veterinarian
Asher joined Anstead Veterinary Practice at the commencement of 2008 after spending 6 years in mixed practice in NSW and locally. He brings a wealth of experience, knowledge and enthusiasm to our practice.
His main work interest is in Small Animal Medicine and Surgery. Asher has undertaken a Masters Degree which will ensure that he is kept abreast of the rapidly emerging advancements in the field of Veterinary Medicine. Asher is passionate about quality Veterinary care and while he enjoys the routine work of tending to healthy patients, he thrives on the more challenging cases.
While not working or studying, Asher is a keen surfer and he can often be found travelling to various spots within South East Queensland.
Dr Ann Blackburne, BVSc (Hons) - Mixed Animal Veterinarian
Ann joined Anstead Veterinary Practice in 2005, having previously worked in Veterinary practices both locally and abroad for a number of years. Ann has experience in all areas of Medicine and Surgery and is a keen and capable surgeon. Ann is especially interested in ophthalmic cases and she is committed to providing a caring and compassionate service.
Ann is a valued member of the Veterinary team and she has been of great assistance in the expansions and development of the practice over the years. She is dedicated to enriching the lives of pets, their owners and our community.
When away from work, Ann breeds and shows Clydesdales and enjoys spending time with her Stumpy-tail Cattle Dogs on her rural property in the area.
Dr Tori McGuire, BVSc (Hons) MACVSc - Equine Veterinarian
After graduating from the University of Qld Tori undertook an equine internship at Oakey Veterinary Hospital before going to work in her father’s mixed animal practice. The lure of the horses was too strong however and she joined the equine team at Anstead Veterinary Practice in 2007.
Tori is a popular and capable veterinarian in all aspects of equine practice but has a special interest in medical cases, particularly those involving foals. Tori also enjoys reproductive work and the odd dental.
In 2010 Tori was accepted as a member of the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists in the field of Equine Medicine.
When not at work Tori enjoys camping and fishing as well as competing in as many dressage competitions as she can fit into her busy workload.
Dr Caitlin McGuckin, BVSc (Hons) - Mixed Animal Veterinarian
Caitlin joined the team at Anstead Veterinary Practice at the end of 2007 after graduating from the University of Qld. She spends most of her time working with horses but enjoys her shifts in the small animal clinic.
Caitlin is developing keen interests in equine dentistry and anaesthesia. She especially enjoys caring for the hospitalised patients.
Prior to beginning her veterinary career, Caitlin studied photography at the Qld College of Art. She has her own darkroom at home for developing black and white photos. When not working or indulging her passion for photography, Caitlin enjoys a good game of touch football.
Katelyn McNicol, BVSc (Hons) - Mixed Animal Veterinarian
Katelyn joined our team in 2008 as an after hours veterinary nurse whilst studying Veterinary Science at UQ. After graduating with honours in 2009 she joined the team as a mixed animal veterinarian.
Although Katelyn loves all animals, her true passion is horses, being particularly interested in medicine and anaesthesia. Katelyn has also undertaken further study in equine dentistry and she is dedicated to the science of balancing a horse’s teeth to enhance health, nutrition and performance.
She is also interested in pocket pet medicine, having owned rabbits, guinea-pigs, rats and mice throughout her child hood. When not busy treating the inpatients at AVP, Katelyn can be found playing netball or training her young warmblood.
Emily Mabbott, BVM&S - Equine Veterinarian
Emily graduated from the University of Edinburgh in Scotland. She spent her childhood in Hong Kong and as a university graduate she quickly discovered that she much preferred the warmer climate of her youth to the infamous British climate. She returned to Hong Kong after graduating where she worked for the Hong Kong Jockey Club for several years.
After taking some time off work to travel the east coast of Australia in a
campervan she joined the Anstead Veterinary Practice in May 2010.
Emily enjoys all aspects of equine veterinary work, and has recently completed
a dentistry course, which has sparked a keen interest in equine dentistry, much
to the amusement of her human dentist mum! Emily is committed to the ongoing
health of all horses whether they spend their days in a lush paddock or enjoy the
thrill of competition.
In her spare time Emily can usually be found training or racing in a canoe or
dragon boat, or trying to learn how to surf and become a real Aussie!
Dr Nick Kannegieter, BVSc PhD FACVSc - Specialist Equine Surgeon

Dr Nick Kannegieter, Registered Specialist in Equine Surgery, is one of Australia's leading equine surgeons with more than 20 years experience in all aspects of the horse industry, including racing, performance, and pleasure horses. Nick runs a consultancy practice extending between NSW and QLD and he regularly operates at AVP on Thursdays. Nick is available for all types of surgery and surgical consultations; however he has a special interest in arthroscopic surgery and throat surgery.
